Addiction is contagious. Just like making finger hearts, nose scrunches, shouting ‘HAJIMA!!’, cringing at someone saying ‘saranghae *insert name* oppa’.
My love for Korean Pop started in June 2018, shortly after completing my one month Screenwriting course from a famous institute. Safe to say, I was completely unaware of the existence of a large group of people learning the Korean language, singing Korean songs and watching Korean dramas.
It started with me being intrigued by one of my friends, whose quirky and fun loving personality would pin blue and pink highlights in her hair, make something weird with her fingers with a smile on her face, and make a gesture using her whole body which resembled, I thought then, maybe a heart (how is that even possible?!).
I have always respected different religions, their beliefs, cultures and traditions. Being in a sort of a cage (which I didn’t realize then), any kind of exposure would be welcomed with open arms. I am a Punjabi Muslim and never did any of my parents teach me hate against any religion. Even after my mom converted into a Muslim, we still celebrated Diwali and I tied rakhis on Rakshabandhan, went to Gurudwaras with my maasis (aunts) and mummyji (grandmother).
So, when my friend told me that it’s completely okay for men to wear makeup, don accessories and quirky clothes in Japan, I was hella intrigued. When she wrote my name in Japanese, I got more excited. No, I do not why. (Well, maybe because I like small things in life?) I think that was the time I made up my mind: I am definitely going to check some of the guys online!
To this day, I still don’t know how I shifted from Japanese to Korean.
That’s how the obsession started.

Once upon a time, in the first week of June, I typed in BTS on YouTube.
Clicked on the colorful video titled ‘BTS (방탄소년단) ‘DNA’ Official MV’
What was the first KPop music video that you watched or song that you listened to?
Let me know in the comments!
I'll add them to my list! 💜💜
